Asphalt Waste Containing Coal Tar (AWCCT)

Experienced & reliable

Flexible & responsive

Fully equipped

Prior to the 1980’s, asphalt binders and surface courses were derived from coal tar, a by-product of coal gas. Currently, coal tar is categorised as a hazardous substance under “WM3 regulations” which ultimately must be managed under specific guidelines set out by the Environmental Agency. Waste is classified as hazardous if it contains more than 0.1% or if any coal tar present exhibits Benzo[a]pyrene levels exceeding 50mg/kg.

Hazardous waste management is not just a regulatory requirement; it’s a responsibility that safeguards the environment and communities. At Jordans, we take this responsibility personally, especially when it comes to managing hazardous waste containing coal tar otherwise known as tarbound.

With years of experience in this field, we’ve honed our skills and technologies to excel in the safe, compliant, and environmentally conscious handling of these challenging materials. Our commitment to protecting the planet while providing top-tier solutions is the cornerstone of our service, ensuring peace of mind for our clients and a cleaner, safer future for all.

Jordans Solution to Coal Tar

Jordan Road Surfacing have the facilities to encapsulate coal tar into bitumen or Cementbound products for reuse in highways construction.

Our products hold industry recognition and has obtained approval as a sustainable approach to recycling hazardous waste materials such as coal tar. The process of encapsulating the hazardous material during production renders it suitable for reuse in surfacing projects, as it meets the necessary industry specifications and falls in line with the environment agencies position statement RPS75.

Jordans can produce and supply Re-Cycler Foam and Cementbound from our depot at Boughton Industrial Estate, Road C, Boughton, NG22 9LD.
